A practical guide to service frequency — what needs attention monthly, quarterly, and annually.
Some drivers go to the garage only when something breaks. Others go too often. Here’s a realistic schedule that keeps your car healthy without over-servicing.
1. Monthly: Quick Self-Checks
Check tire pressure (all four plus the spare), engine oil level (with the car on flat ground, engine off for a few minutes), coolant level (never open when hot), windshield washer fluid, and battery. These take five minutes and can catch problems early.
2. Every 5,000–10,000 km: Routine Service
Oil and filter change, tire inspection and rotation, brake check, and fluid levels. This is your bread-and-butter maintenance visit. How often depends on your oil type and driving conditions — city driving and short trips mean more frequent visits.
3. Annually or Every 20,000–30,000 km: Deeper Checks
Air filter replacement, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid assessment, coolant condition check, battery test, spark plug inspection, suspension and steering check, and A/C performance test. These catch wear items before they become failures.
