Suspension Problems: Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

How to spot worn suspension components before they affect your safety and comfort.

Your suspension absorbs road impacts, keeps your tires in contact with the road, and gives you a comfortable ride. When it wears out, everything else suffers — tire wear, braking, handling, and ride quality.

1. Bouncing After Bumps

If your car continues bouncing after hitting a bump instead of settling quickly, your shock absorbers or struts are worn. This means less tire contact with the road, longer braking distances, and a noticeably uncomfortable ride.

2. Uneven Tire Wear

Worn suspension components cause tires to sit at incorrect angles, leading to uneven wear patterns. If you’re replacing tires frequently or notice one edge wearing faster than the other, the root cause might be suspension — not alignment.

3. Pulling, Drifting, or Nose Diving

If your car drifts or pulls during turns, the suspension isn’t stabilizing the body properly. If the front end dips sharply when braking (nose diving), your struts are worn. Both affect control and should be addressed before they compromise safety.
